The Undisputed WWE Champion, Cody Rhodes, defended his title successfully one night at Wrestlemania 42 against Randy Orton, but he suffered a nasty eye injury in the middle of the match.
Rhodes’ eye was almost completely swollen shut, and WWE confirmed that the champ suffered an orbital injury.
Fans saw Rhodes at a meet-and-greet on Sunday following his brutal match with Orton, and the damage was clear and very real.
Orton attacked Rhodes following the match, hitting him in the head with his belt and then delivering his signature punt, leaving a bloodied Rhodes lying in the ring.

There is no timetable for Rhodes’ return to the ring, according to WWE officials.
“Afterward, Rhodes needed three sutures to the face and four staples to the back of the head,” Jackie Redmond reported before Night Two.
“As for the Punt that you just showed from Randy Orton, the impact to Cody’s orbital socket was so severe that his eye is still completely shut. So again, Rhodes is not medically cleared, and his timetable to return is up in the air.”
Rhodes picked up his fourth Wrestlemania victory along with his fourth Wrestlemania main event.
