Brandon Aubrey Highest-Paid Kicker In NFL After Extension With Cowboys – Is He Worth It?

The Dallas Cowboys have made Brandon Aubrey the highest-paid kicker in the NFL.

Aubrey signed a four-year, $28 million extension with the Cowboys. He will make $20 million guaranteed.

Despite becoming one of the best kickers in the NFL, football wasn’t his first sport. In college, he played soccer for Notre Dame.

Aubrey was drafted with the No. 21 overall pick by Toronto FC in the 2017 MLS SuperDraft. He played for Toronto FC II, their reserve team, in 2017. After a brief stint with Bethlehem Steel FC, he retired from soccer.

After retiring from soccer, Aubrey became a software engineer. He has a degree in computer science from Notre Dame.

Aubrey was watching a football game with his wife when a kicker missed a kick. His wife told him she thinks he’d be able to do better, which made Aubrey interested in a football career.

The Birmingham Stallions of the USFL drafted him in 2022. He was the league leader in field goals and extra points made in 2022.

After two seasons with the Stallions, Aubrey garnered NFL interest. He requested to be released so he could sign with an NFL team. He settled on the Cowboys.

Aubrey has made the Pro Bowl and an All-Pro team in each of his three seasons with the Cowboys.

Earlier this offseason, the Cowboys gave Aubrey a tender contract. This is a one-year, $8 million contract. This contract alone would’ve made him the highest-paid kicker in the NFL in 2026.

Aubrey reportedly wanted $10 million a season from the Cowboys. Although his contract is below $10 million a season, his guaranteed money is still far greater than the tender contract.

The NFL Draft is on April 23. The Cowboys hold two first-round picks. They will look to improve their offense and secondary.
