Unsurprisingly, the Cleveland Cavaliers have decided to pick up Timofey Mozgov’s third-year option, which will only pay him roughly $4.95 million.
This third-year option, only worth $4.95 million, was supposedly a big reason why the Cavs traded for the Russian center. Mozgov came over to the Cavs in the middle of the 2014-15 season, when they traded two first round picks — picks acquired from the Oklahoma City Thunder and Memphis Grizzlies — to the Denver Nuggets.
And he instantly became a standout with 10.6 PPG, 6.9 RPG and 1.2 BPG in his 46 games with the Cavs. He also helped the Eastern Conference team in the playoffs, scoring 28 points in game four of the NBA Finals and even averaging 10.6 PPG throughout the postseason, which were both career highs. So needless to say, this third-year option is a steal for a club that needs to dish out a lot of contracts this offseason.

The Cavs could have as many as ten free agents during this offseason. They have already sent out offers to Tristan Thompson, Iman Shumpert and Matthew Dellavedova, according to ESPN. And Kevin Love has opted out of his contract. However, they are also waiting on the decisions of J.R. Smith and LeBron James, who both might opt-out to garner bigger deals from Cleveland.
