Child With Lighter To Blame For Fire At Tyreek Hill’s Mansion

Firefighters revealed Thursday that a child playing with a lighter was the cause of a fire at Tyreek Hill’s Florida mansion. Hill had to leave practice Wednesday to return home while firefighters attended to the fire. There were no injuries.

“The investigation identified that the fire was accidental and was caused by a child playing with a lighter within a bedroom where the fire started,” Robert Taylor, Davie Fire Rescue fire marshal, said Thursday. “Fortunately, all occupants of the home were able to evacuate safely, and there were no injuries.”

Hill’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, released a statement in which he claimed that the fire was mostly confined to one room and that there were several adults present in the home. Rosenhaus said that there was fire and smoke damage in one area, with firefighters confirming that the blaze burned a hole in the roof of one room.

“[Hill] and his family are safe,” Rosenhaus said. “No one was injured No. 1, no pets, so for that, we’re very grateful. We’re very grateful to the firefighters that put the fire out…. It’s very difficult for anybody obviously to have your home catch on fire, but Tyreek was handling it, he and his family, with as much poise as you could hope.”

Hill missed practice again Thursday but was also named a starting wide receiver in the Pro Bowl the same day. Miami’s star pass catcher has had a historic 2023 season, making 112 receptions for 1,717 yards and 12 touchdowns. He will be a key asset for the Dolphins, now 11-5 and vying for the AFC East division title, as Tua Tagovailoa looks to make a playoff run one year removed from an injury that cost him a chance in the 2023 season. The team takes on the Buffalo Bills for the second seed in the AFC in the final week of the regular season.
