Chase Young Won’t Play Sunday – Commanders Need To Activate Him In Days Or He Can’t Play This Year

Washington Commander’s edge rusher Chase Young is expected now to miss Sunday’s game and may not be eligible to play this year if he’s not activated by the middle of next week.

Originally, reports earlier this week expected the 23-year-old to suit up for the game against the Houston Texans.

However, NFL insider Ian Rapoport said today that Young isn’t quite ready yet.

The former second-overall pick suffered an ACL tear in his right knee during a game in November 2021.

For weeks, Young has been practicing with the Commanders but still needs a little more time.

Rapoport further reported that the following Sunday’s game against the Atlanta Falcons is a better target for a return.

But the bigger issue is the Commanders have him on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list.

That would mean he needs to be activated to the 53-man roster by Wednesday, November 25 to be eligible to play this season.

While there’s disappointment he wasn’t able to suit up for this week’s game, Young should be in line to be activated by then as long as he didn’t suffer a setback.

Not having him on the roster allows the Commanders to keep another body on the roster for Sunday’s game.

But still, it’s a situation worth monitoring.

And while the Commanders shouldn’t take it for granted, it will play the NFL’s worst Texans, which just have one win on the year.

So this allows the team to be more patient and gives him another week to heal up.

The Commanders just sit a half-game behind the San Fransisco 49ers in the NFC wild-card race and are 5-5 on the season.

Additionally, linebacker Cole Holcomb and running back J.D. McKissic will miss the game against the Texans.

Last year, Young recorded 1.5 sacks with the Commanders in nine games.

In his rookie season, he had 7.5 sacks.
