The St. Louis Cardinals will visit the Chicago Cubs on Thursday night in both teams’ first matchup after the All-Star break, and here is what you need to know.
This will be the opener of a five-game series. The Cubs (55-38) are coming off a 7-4 victory over the San Diego Padres. The Cardinals (48-46) last defeated the Cincinnati Reds 6-4.

Right-hander Kyle Hendricks (6-8, 3.92 ERA) will likely start for the home team. Hendricks boasts 83 strikeouts in 2018. He will probably face fellow righty Carlos Martinez (6-5, 3.08 ERA), who has struck out 87 batters this year.
