California Wildfires Force LeBron James And Many Others To Evacuate

As wildfires continue to rage and spread throughout California, many residents are being forced to evacuate their homes and places of business.

After a brush fire broke out west of Interstate 405 in Los Angeles, roughly 10,000 homes and commercial businesses were placed under mandatory evacuation orders as the fire grew to cover more than 500 acres.

Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti acknowledged the gravity of the situation by simply stating, “Get out when we say get out.”

Among those forced to evacuate were Los Angeles Lakers star forward LeBron James and his family. James released a series of tweets talking about how the fires were “no joke”, and about how he and his family were having difficulty finding a room to stay in temporarily. The King also offered prayers for other families in the area affected by the wildfires, as well as for first responders and LAFD.

On Sunday, 43 out of 58 countries in California were placed under red flag warnings, indicating high fire risk. Jonathan Cox, a spokesman for the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, stated that conditions throughout the state of California are currently making it a “tinderbox”.

As the evacuation area has been extended further southwest through the Pacific Palisades and all the way to the ocean, California Governor Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency. The Los Angeles Fire Department called the fire “a very dynamic situation”. It has been said that roughly 500 firefighters are currently battling these fires trademarked by high winds that have been consistently reaching 15-20 mph.

The Lakers are set to play the Memphis Grizzlies Tuesday night at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. The Lakers are 2-1 so far this season after coming off of a win versus the Hornets in which they scored 120 points. The Grizzlies find themselves 1-2 to start the year, their singular win coming from a one-point overtime victory against the Nets in their last game.
