John Elway is widely considered to be one of the best quarterbacks in NFL history, and one lucky cab driver who had the Broncos general manager as a back-seat passenger received quite the surprise when Elway revealed himself.
Elway and his wife were in D.C. with mortgage magnate Glenn Stearns and his wife to attend President Donald Trump’s inauguration when the Stearneses appeared to start a conversation by asking the driver who he believed was the greatest QB of all time. The driver, Sam Snow, clad in a garish Pittsburgh Steelers jacket and Pittsburgh Pirates hat, named Elway.
“If you ran into him would you know who he was?” the Stearns asked. The driver said yes and was asked to turn around to see Elway sitting in the back seat.
He said, “Aw come on man, you serious?… We gotta take a picture.”

The incident was somewhat similar to ‘Undercover Lyft,’ a series in which famous athletes like Rob Gronkowski and Odell Beckham Jr. have participated. This features these players driving unsuspecting passengers around in ride-sharing service Lyft– which is similar to Uber– in very unsophisticated disguises and discussing sports– even themselves at times– before finally revealing their true identities to the passengers.
Any big-time NFL fan would likely be ecstatic to share a taxi with Elway.
