Byron Jones Breaks Broad Jump World Record At NFL Combine

Former UConn cornerback Byron Jones impressed plenty of folks at Monday’s session of the NFL Combine. Though he is saving his 40-yard dash for his March 31 pro day, he made a statement with his broad and vertical jump numbers.

First his vertical leap was 44.5 inches, placing him second in the whole Combine: just behind Georgia wide receiver Chris Conley. But probably the most impressive feat by the young cornerback was his broad jump, which set a new NFL Combine and world record; he leaped an astounding 12′ 3″ which is about an inch longer than the previous record set in 1968 by Arne Tvervaag.

At the moment, it is unsure where Byron will be drafted. A naturally gifted athlete, he did miss a good portion of the 2014 season with a shoulder injury: which was a lingering problem according to the Huskies’ coach. Still, the talent is there and NFL Network analyst Daniel Jeremiah claimed Jones could be a day one starter “in a press-man scheme.”
