Dae’Quan Wright Set To Join LSU Following NFL Exit In A First

The Dae’Quan Wright story confuses a lot of football fans. Wright is headed back to college after being waived by the Cleveland Browns.

The move from college to the NFL and then back to college is unprecedented. Wright will be the first player ever to make this move. He went to Ole Miss and went undrafted before he signed with the Eagles as an undrafted free agent. Then he moved to Cleveland and eventually got waived.

A lot of things had to happen for this to be allowed, and thanks to a judge’s temporary restraining order giving college players their 5th year of eligibility back, it is possible for Wright. This was not the only hurdle that was in the way of Wright’s reunion with coach Lane Kiffin.

Wright played for Kiffin at Ole Miss, and Kiffin has moved to LSU. A rule states that players cannot go from one SEC team to another unless it happens within five days at the end of the season. However, Wright signed an NFL contract, so this rule doesn’t apply because he is going from the Browns to LSU, not Ole Miss to LSU.

This unprecedented situation actually worked out for Wright, as it became a loophole under this SEC standard.

With one year of eligibility remaining for Wright, this would be his last year at the college level before seemingly trying to make it again in the NFL. Whether that happens could depend on how his reincarnation in college football goes.

He is not in the clear yet, as he has to clear waivers but all signs point towards this being the first move of its kind. The LSU season begins against Clemson on September 5.
