Bulls Waive Alfonzo McKinnie, Sign Tristan Thompson

The Chicago Bulls have released forward Alfonzo McKinnie and signed veteran big man Tristan Thompson. Terms of Thompson’s deal were not disclosed.

In this, his eleventh, NBA season, the six-foot-nine, 254-pound Thompson owns career averages of 9.1 points per game (51.8% from the field), 8.5 rebounds per game, and 1.0 assist per game in 27.1 minutes.

A noted butt-slapper, Thompson has played for the Cleveland Cavaliers, Boston Celtics, Sacramento Kings and Indiana Pacers.

He’s appeared in 34 games (three starts) this season with the Kings and Pacers, to the tune of 6.3ppg and 5.3rpg in 15.3mpg.

Thompson has been to the postseason five times—including four consecutive NBA Finals (2015-2018). Over 83 playoff games, 70 starts, he owns averages of 7.8ppg (56.6% from the field) and 8.6rpg in 29.6mpg.

McKinnie played in 17 games, three starts, with Chicago this season and averaged 3.5ppg and 1.9rpg in 12.1mpg.
