Every once and a while, the Internet shows its sweeter side, when a feel-good story goes viral. And this time, it is a story about Bryan Sperry, a World War II veteran and Jayhawk alumni. In a story detailed by the Kansas City Star, Sperry went to play college ball at 17, but his time was interrupted by WWII, where he enlisted and took part in the Battle of the Bulge.
After the war, he played some football in London, before returning to Kansas to try out for the Jayhawks. He played three years for the football program and even participated in the 1948 Orange Bowl.
So to honor a man who has lived such a storied life, the former players helped the 89-year-old score one more touchdown at the annual alumni flag football game. And to see the happiness on Sperry’s face was amazing.
