Brock Osweiler Treated To Rude Denver Homecoming In Broncos’ 27-9 Win Over Texans

Brock Osweiler was treated to a rough welcome by Denver, as the quarterback and his Houston Texans fell to the Broncos 27-9 on Monday night.

Brock Osweiler Treated To Rude Denver Homecoming In Broncos’ 27-9 Win Over Texans

Broncos coach Gary Kubiak returned to the sideline following his second health scare in three years, and fortunately for him got to see his team snap a two-game skid in sending the overwhelmed Texans home at 4-3.

C.J. Anderson– who was momentarily out due to injury in the first quarter– and Devontae Booker led Denver’s sputtering ground game, both running for a touchdown. Anderson gained 107 yards on 16 carries and Booker had 83 on 17 hand-offs.

One of the biggest stars of the night, however, was quarterback Trevor Siemian, Peyton Manning’s successor. Siemian outplayed Osweiler, who was set to be the reigning Super Bowl champion Broncos’ next QB, but instead headed to Houston in free agency.

Osweiler joined the Texans for higher pay, though he spent much of Monday night scrambling, constantly overthrowing DeAndre Hopkins in double coverage after being repeatedly pressured by the Denver defense.

Although he was never sacked, Osweiler went 22 for 41 for 131 yards with no TDs and no interceptions. Siemian, meanwhile, finished 14 of 25 for 157 yards, a TD and no interceptions.

Osweiler’s fumble on his own 25-yard line was picked up by Chris Harris Jr. on the first play of the fourth quarter. That drive ended with Brandon McManus’ chip-shot field goal that made it 24-9 and erased the Texans’ hopes for a comeback.

Anderson scored on a 7-yard run and Siemian threw to Demaryius Thomas from 4 yards out as Denver gained a 14-6 halftime lead.

Houston led 6-0 in the first quarter thanks to a pair of 43-yard field goals from Nick Novak.

Novak’s 29-yarder put the score at 14-9, but safety Darian Stewart stole the ball from running back Alfred Blue and linebacker Todd Davis plucked it out of the air. That led to Booker’s 1-yard touchdown run.

Kubiak missed the Broncos’ (5-2) last game after doctors ordered him to take a week off. The coach was transported via ambulance to the hospital following Denver’s last home game on Oct. 9, with a complex migraine condition similar to a stroke. Kubiak suffered a mini-stroke in 2013 while coaching the Texans.

The Broncos will next host the San Diego Chargers on Sunday, while the Texans will host the Detroit Lions that same day.
