Braves Beat Astros 6-2 On First Game Of The World Series

After an impressive win against the Los Angeles Dodgers to secure their spot in the World Series, the Atlanta Braves have done it again now beating 6-2 the Houston Astros in the first game of the series.

Powered by a strong bullpen effort, a two-run homer by Adam Duvall and a late sacrifice fly from Freddie Freeman, the Braves coasted in their first Series appearance since Chipper Jones and their Big Three aces ascended in 1999.

Jorge Soler led off the game by taking the third pitch he saw from Framber Valdez – the first two were balls – and depositing it into the Crawford Boxes. With one out, Ozzie Albies reached on an infield single, stole second and was driven home on a double by Austin Riley.

“Soler attacked me in that situation because I got behind in the count,” Valdez said. “And that’s what good hitters do, is they take advantage of that kind of situation to attack a pitcher.”

Braves starter Charlie Morton had to leave with a fractured fibula in the third inning, and that opened the door for the Astros in the fourth. However, this door closed real quick as the Astros could not narrow the gap in the score. Jose Altuve, Carlos Correa and the other Astros mostly looked lost at the plate, not even Alex Bregman or Yordan Alvarez was a threat in the later innings. Their only runs came on shortstop Dansby Swanson’s fielding error in the fourth and Correa’s groundout in the eighth.

This is the Astros third World Series in five seasons.

“You just got to like blow this game off and then come back and that’s the beauty of baseball: Tomorrow’s another day,” Astros manager Dusty Baker said. “And who knows? That’s the way I look at it. Ball’s going to bounce our way tomorrow.”

This has been the first World Series game with a packed stadium since Game 7 at this very park in 2019 when a sellout crowd silently filed out after watching the Nationals rally past Houston. Game 2 is Wednesday night, with Braves lefty Max Fried starting against Astros right-hander José Urquidy. Who knows what will happen on Wednesday night, but one thing is for sure, the Astros have to step up their game or they will lose their third opportunity for the World Championship.
