Boxing Legend Terence Crawford Insists He’s Not Coming Out Of Retirement – Despite Rumors

Rumors of a potential comeback by boxing legend Terence Crawford have circulated throughout the boxing world just months after the undefeated champion announced his retirement, capping one of the greatest careers in modern boxing history.

Crawford made headlines in December 2023 when he retired with a perfect record of 40-0, ending his career as the only boxer of the four-belt era to become undisputed champion in three different weight classes. The Omaha, Nebraska, native walked away shortly after defeating Canelo Alvarez to become the undisputed super middleweight champion.

While many talk about a possible comeback, Crawford revealed he wanted to retire before the Canelo fight—regardless of the outcome—because he wanted to leave the sport on his own terms.

Defeating Canelo—one of the greatest of all time—was a fitting way to leave the sport. However, recent comments from Saudi boxing executives have fueled speculation that Crawford could eventually return to the ring. Crawford has said on multiple podcasts, including The Pivot, “I’m never going to fight again, regardless of the money.”

The rumors will likely persist, and several opportunities still exist—a rematch with Canelo remains possible after the superstar expressed interest in running it back after losing to Crawford.

Few fighters in history have résumés like Crawford’s. Floyd Mayweather Jr. is 50-0, but Crawford captured 18 major world titles across five divisions and retired as one of the most accomplished fighters of his generation.

For now, Crawford remains retired, but boxing history is filled with champions who eventually returned after insisting they were finished. Legends often leave the door open, but when they’re in their prime—like Crawford was—it’s important to appreciate greatness.
