Boxer Jarrell Miller Wins Match But Loses Hairpiece

Boxers know that they’re putting their bodies on the line, but they would’ve never guessed their hair would be as well.

Jarrell Miller and Kingsley Ibeh faced off on January 31 at Madison Square Garden. During Round 2, Miller’s hairpiece can be seen falling off after a punch from Ibeh. Miller proceeded to throw his hairpiece into the stands. In a postgame interview, Miller admitted that he had lost his natural hair just two days before. He claims he had used an ammonium bleach mix as shampoo by accident.

“Yo, the s— was like ammonium bleach,” Miller said, “I literally lost my hair like two days ago. So I called my man, he was like, ‘Let me slap that s— on, real quick!’ Ibeh knocked that s— off.”

The accuracy of this story is questionable. Mixing ammonia and bleach together creates chloramine gas. Exposure to this gas can cause coughing, nausea, shortness of breath, and can even lead to unconsciousness and death. According to Verywell Health, one of the most common causes of accidental exposure to chloramine gas is using bleach-based cleaning products in toilets. Urine contains ammonia, which can cause chloramine gas.

Despite losing his hairpiece, Miller went on to win the fight in a split decision. This was his first fight since August 2024. In his last fight, he held Andy Ruiz to a draw.

Miller didn’t seem to be embarrassed by the incident. In his post-fight Instagram post, he made a joke about losing his hair. He also made an AI-generated video of himself driving a car and his toupee falling off in the wind.

Miller is currently not scheduled for another fight as of February 1. His Instagram post did say “on to the next one,” implying he does intend to do another match relatively soon.
