Black Anthem, “Lift Ev’ry Voice And Sing,” To Be Played At NFL Games This Season
There will be another anthem alongside “The Star-Spangled Banner” at week 1 NFL games this season. According to the Associated Press, “Lift Ev’ry Voice and Sing” will be played before all week 1 games to raise awareness of racism going on in the United States.
The NFL is putting in place many initiatives this season to raise awareness of racial injustices such as educational programs and storytelling. The league announced last month that it will be committing $250 million over the next 10 years to fight against racism and social injustice faced by African Americans. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell released a video denouncing racism after the death of George Floyd, which started nationwide protests.
Discussions are still ongoing within the NFL about implementing further initiatives throughout the season. For now, fans will hear “Lift Ev’ry Voice and Sing” starting on Sept. 10 when the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs host the Houston Texans.
