Baltimore Ravens Defeat Browns in Cleveland After ‘Kick-six’ In Final Seconds

The Baltimore Ravens beat the Cleveland Browns on their own turf at FirstEnergy Stadium in Cleveland, Ohio on Monday night after an absurd turnover. The Browns attempted a 51-yard field goal kick in the final seconds with the score tied 27-27. However, Ravens defensive end Brent Urban blocked the kick and Will Hill returned it 64 yards to score a touchdown.

The Browns could have very well avoided this situation if they had been slightly more careful. The Ravens took over the ball with just a minute left after the Browns scored to tie the game. However, backup Ravens QB Matt Schaub threw an interception almost immediately. Browns QB Austin Davis entered the game after starter Josh McCown injured his right shoulder in the fourth quarter. Davis then threw a 42-yard TD pass to Travis Benjamin to tie the game with 1:47 left.

Following the Ravens turnover, Davis also gave himself up by sliding, while still inbounds, just shy of the Ravens 30-yard line with 12 seconds left in the game. Davis managed to pick up a first down, but could have easily gained a few more yards and avoided forcing the team to take a timeout. The Browns tried to run the ball on their next attempt and lost yardage, which left rookie kicker Travis Coons to attempt a 51-yarder. Coons had been 18 for 18 up until this point in his career, but the kick was still undeniably long.

Next Sunday, the Browns (2-9) will face the Cincinnati Bengals (9-2) at home, while the Ravens (4-7) will play the Dolphins (4-7) in Miami.
