Pitcher Lance McCullers, Astros at Orioles, July 23, 2017
The Oakland Athletics will host the defending national champion Houston Astros on Wednesday night, and here is what you need to know.
Wednesday’s game will be the second of a three-game series. The Astros won 6-3 in Oakland on Tuesday. Gerrit Cole (7-1, 2.16 ERA) is set to face off against fellow right-hander Paul Blackburn (1-0, 1.50 ERA) on Wednesday.
In his most recent start against the Texas Rangers, Cole delivered a strong showing, with multiple strikeouts. Cole allowed just one earned run and three walks on three hits in six innings pitched.
Blackburn made his season debut against the Kansas City Royals last week after being on the disabled list for two months. He had a relatively strong performance against Kansas City, giving up just a single earned run off one homer and two more hits over six innings of work.
