Aqib Talib & Draft Pick Traded To Dolphins At NFL Trade Deadline

The Los Angeles Rams traded cornerback Aqib Talib and a draft pick to the Miami Dolphins just before Tuesday’s 4 p.m. EST deadline. In return, the Rams will receive a future draft pick.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Miami is acquiring a fifth-round pick in the deal.

Talib, 33, is currently on injured reserve after fracturing his ribs against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 5, which means the Dolphins basically just purchased a draft pick by trading for him. Talib has roughly $4.2 million remaining on his  contract, so the money Los Angeles saved by dealing him can now be used to sign other players.

The five-time Pro Bowl cornerback — who previously played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, New England Patriots and Denver Broncos — is set to become an unrestricted free agent next offseason. Talib, a former first-round pick, helped lead the Broncos to a Super Bowl 50 victory after the 2015 season.

The trade for Talib sparked dozens of memes on Twitter that poked fun at the fact that the cornerback likely hates the prospect of playing for a team that is currently 0-7:

Talib isn’t the only cornerback the Rams have recently traded, however. Earlier this month, the team shipped Marcus Peters to the Baltimore Ravens and received linebacker Kenny Young and a fifth-round pick in return. However, the team also gained a two-time Pro-Bowl cornerback at Tuesday’s trade deadline: Jacksonville Jaguars star Jalen Ramsey, whom the Rams could ultimately sign to a long-term contract extension.
