Anthony Edwards Becomes Ineligible For End Of Season Awards Due To 65-Game Rule

Minnesota Timberwolves superstar Anthony Edwards will officially be ineligible for All-NBA honors after failing to meet the 65-game requirement for end-of-season awards.

Edwards is currently third in the league in points per game and was named an All-Star, but will not be able to make an All-NBA team following two consecutive appearances on an All-NBA team.

The 65-game rule is a controversial one that some like, and some don’t, and there are obviously pros and cons to it, but someone like Edwards should almost certainly make an All-NBA team. Technically, Edwards can play 65 games, but because he only played three minutes in one of those games, it does not count since the minimum minutes required is 20.

Edwards’s missing out on these honors has huge ramifications for him and his money. An All-NBA selection would have secured him the supermax contract extension that he will be eligible to sign in 2027. He now has to make an All-NBA team next season to be eligible for the supermax.

Players such as Cade Cunningham, Nikola Jokic, and Kawhi Leonard are all one game away from being disqualified from end-of-season awards, and they would only join players such as Giannis Antetokounmpo, Joel Embiid, and LeBron James.
