Alex Cora Texts & Emails Reveal He’s Happy About Firing

More details about former Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora’s recent firing have been released.

MassLive obtained emails and texts from Cora after being fired. They also reported that Cora was called about replacing Rob Thomson as the Philadelphia Phillies manager, but he declined.

Cora texted several reporters that he was happy about being fired. They also obtained an email that Cora sent to every member of the Red Sox organization.

“We are happy to have the time to be full-time parents, that’s the truth, but also we are disappointed that we didn’t finish the job. I respect the direction the organization is taking. A lot of talented people will help accomplish the ultimate goal: another duck boat parade. Thank you for the hard work, sleepless nights, professionalism and effort to help me lead this great organization,” Cora said.

Cora was part of a massive restructuring for the Red Sox. Hitting coach Pete Fatse, third-base coach Kyle Hudson, bench coach Ramon Vazquez, assistant hitting coach Dillon Lawson and hitting strategy coach Joe Cronin were also fired. Game planning coach and former Red Sox captain Jason Varitek was reassigned to a different role.

The Red Sox rank in the bottom 10 in the league in offense. Their one bright spot on offense this season has been Wilyer Abreu, who has a 142 OPS+ this season.

Their pitching has been better, but still not great. The league-average ERA is 4.50, while the Red Sox team ERA is 4.48. Garrett Crochet has been disappointing so far this season with a 6.30 ERA. Aroldis Chapman has been the bright spot so far with a 1.04 ERA and five saves.

Minor league manager Chad Tracy has been named the Red Sox’s interim manager. Tracy hit 86 home runs in the major leagues.
