The Dallas Cowboys traded Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers on Thursday, sending shockwaves across the league.

The defensive end will become the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history, signing a four-year, $188 million deal with Green Bay.

Dallas will receive defensive tackle Kenny Clark and two first-round picks for the 2026 and 2027 NFL Draft as part of the trade.

“I never wanted this chapter to end, but not everything was in my control,” Parson said in a social media post. “My heart has always been here, and it still is. Through it all, I never made any demands. I never asked for anything more than fairness. I only asked that the person I trust to negotiate my contract be part of the process.”

Parsons made headlines last week after appearing to sleep on a trainer’s table during the Cowboys’ preseason game against the Atlanta Falcons. The incident occurred amid a contract dispute with team owner Jerry Jones, who claimed he had offered the 2021 Defensive Rookie of the Year a new deal, which agent David Mulugheta rejected.

Mulugheta dismissed Jones’ claim, saying it was “bullc—” and “lies.”

One week later, the saga appears to have come to an end. Parsons officially signed the record-breaking contract, which includes $120 million fully guaranteed at signing and a total of $136 million in guarantees.

Meanwhile, Jones defended the trade by insisting that it would ultimately benefit the Cowboys.

“This was a move to get us successful in the playoffs,” Jones said in a news conference on Thursday. “This was a move to be better on defense, stopping the run. This was a move to, if we get behind, not be run on. And it was a deliberate move, a well-thought-out move to make this happen.”

A childhood Cowboys fan, Parsons was drafted by Dallas in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft. During his time in Texas, Parsons made the Pro Bowl four times and won the Defensive Rookie of the Year award in his first season.

The defensive end is expected to make his debut with the Packers on September 7 at Lambeau Field against the Detroit Lions. Parsons is also scheduled to return to Dallas on Sunday Night Football in Week 4, where the Cowboys host the Packers.
