Adam Johnson, winger for Sunderland A.F.C. in the British Premier League, has pleaded guilty to both sexual activity with a child and child grooming. The pleas occurred at the start of a trial at Bradford Crown Court this morning.

Adam Johnson: Sunderland Star Pleads Guilty In Child Sex Trial

Johnson, 28, continues to deny two further counts of sexual activity with the same child, and the trial will proceed on Friday. The Sunderland star arrived at court with girlfriend Stacey Flounders on Wednesday morning, and was flanked by a female prison officer.

The defendant had his cased moved from County Durham, where he is from.

Johnson, who was born in Sunderland, moved to Manchester City in 2010 and was then sold to Sunderland in 2012 for 10 million pounds.

The jury, which is made up of six men and six women, have yet to reach a decision on the remaining two charges.

“It will be for you and only you to determine if he is guilty or not guilty.”

Kate Blackwell QC for the prosecution stated that the alleged incidents had occurred in County Durham, in or around the area of Castle Eden and Wingate. The case continues.
