‘Active Shooter’ Mona Elease Williams Arrested At San Diego Marathon After Opening Fire Near Finish Line
An “active shooter” was detained at the finish line of the San Diego Marathon on Sunday after she began firing off several shots.

The suspect was identified as 58-year-old Mona Elease Williams and the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon resumed after she was arrested. According to several reports, Williams tossed the weapon she used from the top of a parking garage, from where she had opened fire.
According to CBS News, the only injury was to a police officer, who accidentally shot himself in the leg while attempting to subdue the suspect.
The shooting began at around 11 am local time, after police received a call about a hit-and-run. Marathon officials stated that the race was stopped for approximately 10 minutes and rerouted. Several additional streets were closed off as local authorities began pursuing the woman.
The 26.2-mile San Diego Marathon includes a half-marathon and 5K run.
San Diego police Chief David Nisleit said his department was also looking into Williams’ potential connection to a kidnapping that happened in the nearby town of Chula Vista, California.
The Boston Marathon in April 2013 was the site of terror attacks after two brothers set off bombs near the finish line. Three people were killed and more than 260 were injured in the bombings.
