Aaron Rodgers To Inform Packers Of His 2022 Fate By March 8

Green Bay Packers quarterback (for now) Aaron Rodgers says that he plans to soon inform the team of his intentions for the 2022 NFL season. He said he’d share his 2022 plans by March 8, the end of the window for teams to use the franchise tag, so as not to impact the team’s negotiations with pending free-agent WR Davante Adams.

On the table for Rodgers is a return to Green Bay for the final year of his contract, an early retirement, or a requested trade. It’s unclear if the Packers would even consider the latter, but multiple teams have allegedly already reached out with offers for the recent lightning rod for criticism and reigning MVP.

The news comes a day after Packers GM Brian Gutekunst told reporters he and Rodgers agreed prior to last season to collectively re-evaluate the QB’s future prior to the 2022 campaign. He shrugged off the notion that he promised Rodgers a trade if he ultimately preferred one but declined to confirm whether he’d honor a trade request.

Despite a somewhat-recuperated relationship with team brass, Rodgers has left all possibilities on the table for 2022.

Should he request a trade and the Packers listen to offers, the Broncos have long been speculated as the most logical landing spot due to their need for a QB, abundance of 2022 salary cap space, and Rodgers’ connection with Denver’s new coach: former Packers offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett.
