Ex-Lakers Guard Nick Young Signs One-Year, $5.2M Deal With Warriors

Free-agent guard Nick Young has signed a one-year, $5.2 million contract with the defending champion Golden State Warriors, his agent Mark Bartelstein announced.

Nick Young Averaged 13.2 Points for the Lakers last season

The 32-year-old guard is believed to give the Warriors a substantial boost after averaging 13.2 points per game on 43 percent shooting from the field last season, his fourth with the Los Angeles Lakers.

Young’s Lakers coach, Luke Walton, is close with the Dubs’ management and coaching staff, and has been amazed by the former first-round draft pick’s performance last year.

The 16th overall pick out of Southern California in 2007, Young began his NBA career with the Washington Wizards, with whom he spent five seasons before joining the Clippers for one year and then the Lakers.

Last season, Young ranked in the 79.1 percentile with 1.26 points per possession in transition and the 62.1 percentile with 0.99 points per possession off screens.

Golden State has also added forward Omri Casspi as a bench commitment this week. The defending NBA champions returned Andre Iguodala and Shaun Livingston to their bench this off-season. The Warriors are also keeping two-time MVP Stephen Curry, who signed a five-year, $201 million extension last week, and Kevin Durant, who recently agreed to a two-year, $53 million, a discount of $9 million off his potential maximum salary.

The Warriors are still hoping to re-sign free-agent center JaVale McGee as well. McGee averaged 6.1 points and 3.2 rebounds per game and shot 65.2 percent from the field last season, his first with Golden State.

In other NBA news, restricted free-agent forward Andre Roberson has signed a three-year, $30 million extension with the Oklahoma City Thunder this week.

The 25-year-old could have reportedly chosen a four-year deal. Roberson — an NBA all-defensive second-team choice this year — averaged a career-high 6.6 points and 5.1 rebounds in 79 games this past season. He holds career averages of 4.5 points and 3.9 rebounds in 256 games with Oklahoma City, for whom he is sure to provide strong offensive and defensive performances.

The Thunder also acquired All-Star Paul George from the Indiana Pacers on Friday in a trade that saw Oklahoma City yield shooting guard Victor Oladipo and second-year forward Domantas Sabonis. George is slated to earn $19.5 million next season, and will pair nicely with reigning MVP Russell Westbrook on general manager Sam Presti’s squad.
