Florentino Perez Reelected As Real Madrid President

Florentino Perez has been reelected as president of Real Madrid, extending his tenure at one of the world’s most successful football clubs and ensuring continuity for the organization’s sporting and financial projects.

Perez secured another term following the club’s first contested presidential election in nearly two decades. The election campaign drew significant attention as challenger Enrique Riquelme promised major signings and institutional changes, while Perez responded by pledging to pursue a new “Galactico” signing worth €150 million ($174 million) if reelected.

Following his victory, Perez moved quickly to fulfill that campaign promise. Real Madrid officially confirmed that it submitted a €150 million bid for Atlético Madrid forward Julián Álvarez, though the offer was rejected by Atlético, which pointed to the player’s €500 million release clause. The move demonstrated Perez’s intention to continue pursuing marquee signings who could become the next face of the club.

Before the target’s identity became public, speculation linked the promised Galactico signing to several elite players across Europe. One of the names most frequently mentioned in reports was Michael Olise, whose performances for Bayern Munich have made him one of the most sought-after attacking players in Europe. However, Perez publicly denied that Olise was the player behind the planned €150 million offer.

The pursuit of Álvarez also carried additional significance because of reported interest from FC Barcelona. Multiple reports suggested Barcelona viewed the Argentine forward as a potential long-term attacking centerpiece. Had Real Madrid succeeded in completing the transfer, it would not only have strengthened its own squad but also prevented one of its biggest rivals from landing a highly coveted target. However, even if the signing was not completed, it is believed to raise the cost of the Argentine forward if Barcelona continues to pursue him, ultimately hurting Barcelona’s finances.

Perez’s reelection provides stability at a time when Real Madrid continues to navigate an increasingly competitive European football landscape. With transfer speculation already intensifying and the club reportedly prepared to invest heavily in new talent, attention will now shift toward whether Perez can deliver another era of Galactico signings while maintaining Real Madrid’s position among the elite clubs in world football.
