Luka Doncic Calls Off Engagement With Fiancée Anamaria Goltes, Now Faces Custody Battle Over 2 Daughters
Los Angeles Lakers guard Luka Doncic has called off the engagement with his fiancée, Anamaria Goltes.
The couple had been together since they were 12. Goltes is seeking custody of the couple’s children in a California court. Their second daughter was born just three months before the announcement.
“I love my daughters more than anything, and I’ve been doing everything I can for them to be with me in the U.S. during the season, but that hasn’t been possible, so I recently made the tough decision to end my engagement,” Doncic said. “Everything I do is for my daughters’ happiness, and I will always fight to be with them and give them the best life I can.”
Doncic and Goltes are from Slovenia. They returned to Slovenia earlier this season for the birth of their second child. Doncic is not a U.S. citizen, meaning his second child will not be eligible for citizenship without going through the immigration process. His first child was born in the U.S. Doncic missed two games while in Slovenia.

Because Doncic’s second daughter is not a U.S. citizen, it can be difficult for her to travel to the country. The Trump administration ended several fast-track immigration and travel programs that could have made it easier for his daughter to get in. This means his wife needs to stay home, far from Doncic during the NBA season.
U.S. courts have permission to grant custody to someone living outside the country, if they deem it to be in the “best interest of the child.” If Doncic were granted custody, it would provide his youngest daughter with legal protection to remain in the country during the NBA season.
Doncic is in the country on a P-1A visa, nicknamed an “athlete” visa. He is considered a foreign national.
