C.J. McCollum And Trail Blazers Agree To Four-Year Contract Extension
Portland Guard C.J. McCollum will be staying in Rip City for at least another five years. The Portland Trail Blazers resigned McCollum to a four-year $106 million deal that begins the 2017-2018 season. McCollum has been with the Trail Blazers his entire three-year career in the NBA and was the NBA’s Most Improved Player this year after a breakout season.
Guard Damian Lillard tweeted his feeling towards keeping the backcourt together.
McCollum was second on the team, to Lillard, in scoring. McCollum averaged 20.8 points and 4.3 assists per game. Lillard averaged 25.1 points and 6.8 assists per game. McCollum played and started in 80 games last season and averaged 34.8 minutes per game.
McCollum helped the Trail Blazers past the first round of the Western Conference Playoffs against the L.A. Clippers in six games. They advanced to the Western Conference Semi Finals against the Golden State Warriors and lost in five. McCollum averaged 20.5 points per game and 2.8 rebounds per game in the post season.
Portland also resigned guard Allen Crabbe, matching an offer sheet he signed with the Nets, resigned center Meyers Leonard to a four-year $41 million deal and signed free-agent Evan Turner to a four-year $70 million contract. Turner was drafted by the Philadelphia 76ers in 2010 and has also played for the Indiana Pacers and Boston Celtics. He has a career average of 10.7 points per game and 5.2 rebounds per game. He will be able to help the Trail Blazers on the wing.
Portland guard Maurice Harkless has signed a four-year deal worth up to $42 million to stay with the Trail Blazers. Harkless is in the top five in scoring for Portland averaging 11 points and 5.1 rebounds per game.
The Trail Blazers retweeted The Vertical report on Harkless.
