Texas Longhorns Take Down The Utes 38-10 In Alamo Bowl
San Antonio hosted the 2019 Alamo Bowl featuring No. 11 Utah against Texas’ own Longhorns. Texas, led by quarterback Sam Ehlinger, dominated the Utes with a 38-10 win.
“Wow, did they play hard and we knew that’s what it was going to take”, Texas coach Tom Herman said. “We knew that this was probably going to be the most physical team that we played all year, and our guys rose to the occasion.”
Texas (8-5) jumped out early with a 17-0 lead heading into halftime. Utah (11-3) struggled the last few games of their season and this was no different.
Ehlinger completed 12 of 18 passes for 201 yards and three touchdowns while rushing for 73 yards with a score. Running back Keaontay Ingram had 13 carries on 108 yards and caught one for a score. Linebacker Joseph Ossai came up big with three sacks.

“I think when we are healthy and having fun and playing for each other, and playing mistake-free, we’re really, really hard to beat”, said Ehlinger. “I’m very optimistic about the guys coming back [next season]. There’s a lot of young guys that have a lot of experience and are really, really good football players, so I’m very optimistic.”
For Utah, the loss brings a bitter end to a season that seemed to start out so promising, missing the College Football Playoffs after a 37-15 loss to Oregon in the Pac-12 title game.
Quarterback Tyler Huntley had a disappointing day throwing for just 126 yards and one score. The Longhorns were able to run for 231 yards against the Utes defense, who entered the game with the nation’s best run defense.
Looking ahead to next season, the Longhorns look to carry this momentum with them. “Our talent can take us pretty far”, Ehlinger said. “When you add mistake-free football, watch out.”
