Cowboys Guard Ronald Leary Requests Trade
Dallas Cowboys guard Ronald Leary has requested a trade, NFL Media analyst Gil Brandt reported Tuesday via a source familiar with the situation.
Cowboys Guard Ronald Leary Requests Trade
After starting in the 2013 and 2014 seasons (31 games in total), Leary, 27, was replaced by rookie La’el Collins in October of last season, during which he only started four games. Since he doesn’t have experience at center, he was deemed a healthy scratch for the rest of the season. Collins signed a fully-guaranteed contract as an undrafted rookie.
Leary, an undrafted player who has been with the Cowboys since 2012 after playing collegiately at the University of Memphis, will be skipping organized team activities this week.
He signed his one-year $2.553 million restricted free-agent tender in late April, hoping to facilitate a trade on draft weekend.

Cowboys Executive Vice President Stephen Jones confirmed, via ESPN.com, that Leary drew interest from several teams during the draft, although Dallas did not seem prepared to simply “give away” the veteran guard. He is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent after the season.
The Tennessee Titans could perhaps benefit from acquiring Leary after losing versatile guard Byron Bell for the season to a dislocated ankle on Tuesday. Earlier this offseason, the Titans traded for running back DeMarco Murray, whom Leary helped run for an NFL-high 1,845 yards in 2014.
The Cowboys also recently signed Joe Looney as a backup guard/center to replace Mackenzy Bernadeau, who left as a free agent this offseason with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Leary reportedly received more than $200,000 guaranteed when he first joined the Cowboys.
