Cam Newton sat down with Ebony to discuss his infamous post-Super Bowl walk out for the first time since his Panthers were upset in Super Bowl 50, 24-10 by the Denver Broncos in Peyton Manning’s final game.

Newton Finally Speaks About Post-Super Bowl Walkout

“The truth is, I represent something way bigger than myself. I’m doing it for [my fans and family] and I felt like I let them down,” Newton told the magazine.

So Newton didn’t apologize, but he did admit that his actions were questionable to say the least.  Later in the interview it appeared to fire back at people who were critical of his actions.

“Who is anyone to tell me, ‘Man, it’s just an interview.’ You haven’t been in that situation. You didn’t have millions of people watching you. Your heart wasn’t pumping [with] the embarrassment or the anxiety of the stress of dealing with that type of game.”

Newton later went on to offer somewhat of an explantation for what happened back in February.  “I just wasn’t ready to talk. Was I mad? Hell, yeah! But there could have been a better way to control it, and that’s why I think having more time would have helped.”

Newton now realizes that his actions were questionable to say the least, but I’m not going to say he was wrong.  He is is own man and can act however he chooses, he isn’t forced to answer questions in a specific way and looking back it seems like he knows he  could have handled the postgame interview in better way.
