The United States has reportedly asked for 50 Swiss bank accounts to be frozen as part of the ongoing investigation of FIFA’s corruption. According to the Swiss Justice Ministry, it is believed that “corruption money” could have been moved through the accounts.

This latest news comes on the heels of suspended Fifa President Sepp Blatter‘s appearance before the FIFA Ethics Committee. The panel of four judges is expected to make a decision in the coming weeks; Blatter has already stated that he will leave FIFA in late February.

UEFA head Michel Platini is also scheduled for a hearing, but he and his legal team will not be attending. According to frenchman’s legal team, they believe the verdict is a forgone conclusion.

In a touch of irony, Blatter himself strengthened the Ethics Committee in 2012 by allowing it to become even tougher and more independent.
