Regardless of the sports, team chemistry comes from veterans taking the new guys through team specific initiations, and in this case, footing pricy tabs is a time honored NFL tradition that rookie San Francisco 49ers running back Mike Davis is now too familiar with after an outing with the team over the weekend.

Davis, a fourth round, 126th overall pick in the 2015 draft, took to Instagram to show his situation after eating an expensive meal with teammates where the bill said that he owed $1,878.59 – a price more than many people’s rent.

Captioned under this picture was the statement, “Welcome to the NFL rookie.”

While the check was quite substantial, Davis is under a four year, 2.748 million deal (of which $466,781 is guaranteed) with the 49ers, all of which included a $117,195 signing bonus. But unlike the deep pockets of the players he ate with, a four figure bill stings more when you’re paying for it, especially when you try your best to be frugal.

A prior photo from Davis shows his fridge filled with Lunchables, Hot Pockets, and orange juice bottles – a grocery haul fit for a penny pinching college student, but not up to par with the NFL standards. So, Davis must have known that something like this was about to hit him, as it clearly looked like he was trying to save.

And while an almost $2,000 bill on one meal is quite outrageous, college is not the same as the NFL.
