Opening Day of Major League Baseball is just around the corner. Now is a good time to look at each team’s prognosis heading into the 2021 season after the 60-game 2020 abbreviated season.
The San Francisco Giants haven’t made the playoffs in the last three seasons. They’ve won a total of eight World Series championships and have won 23 National League Pennants in the team’s 138-year history. In 2020, the Giants finished 18th in ERA, posting a 4.64 ERA and 12th in home runs with 81 dingers.
Here are San Francisco’s projected starters.
In the offseason, the Giants signed starters Alex Wood, Anthony DeScalafani and Aaron Sanchez. They also signed relievers Jake McGee and Matt Wisler, second baseman Tommy La Stella, and catcher Curt Casali. Besides additions, the Giants lost starters Drew Smyly, Trevor Cahill, Jeff Samardzija, Tyson Ross, and second baseman Daniel Robertson.

Regarding their offense, the Giants do not have a star player. In terms of their pitching, the starting rotation will be competitive but can have some downsides. While the team does not have a clear-cut closing option, both relievers Jake McGee and Matt Wisler improve depth. Generally speaking, the San Francisco Giants are missing young, developed talent in all aspects of their squad, and this will hold them back from making the postseason in 2021.
