Zion Williamson and his previously injured foot have been cleared to go through offseason workouts unrestricted this summer, the New Orleans Pelicans announced.
Williamson missed the beginning of the 2021-22 season after he broke the fifth metatarsal in his right foot working out last summer. He then suffered setbacks, which caused him to miss the entire campaign.
Williamson played just 24 games during his rookie season after his debut was delayed by a torn meniscus in his right knee. In addition, he’s played in only 85 games during his three years in the league due to injuries.
Zion’s eligible to sign a five-year, $186 million max rookie extension with New Orleans this summer, and when asked last month if that’s appealing to him, he replied, “Of course. I wouldn’t be able to sign it fast enough.”

“Being real, it sucks watching from the sideline” Williamson said. “I just want to be out there. Just seeing the potential. We have a lot of great pieces. I’m excited to get out on the court with those guys.”
