New York Yankees rookie second baseman Gleyber Torres impressed in Monday’s 10-5 victory over the Rangers in Texas, hitting two home runs.
Both of 21-year-old Torres’ homers came off Bartolo Colon, the veteran ace who will turn 45 this week. Colon made his MLB debut in 1997, the year after Torres was born.
Venezuelan Torres hit a two-run homer off Dominican Colon in the second inning, and then another solo shot off the pitcher in the fourth. Colon finished by allowing six runs on eight hits — including four home runs — and struck out four in 5 1/3 innings.

According to NBC Sports, Torres is the second-youngest Yankee in franchise history with a multi-homer game. The youngest is Mickey Mantle, who was about two months shy of his 21st birthday when he homered twice on August 11, 1952.
Torres now boasts six homers in 25 games. He is not the only young second baseman in MLB to be putting on impressive performances, however. Second-year Atalanta Braves Curaçaoan standout Ozzie Albies, 21, is hitting .573 with 13 home runs and leads the NL in total bases.
The Yankees (31-13) are first in the AL East, half a game behind the second-place Boston Red Sox (32-15). The Bombers and Rangers will face off again on Tuesday at 8:05pm EST in Texas for the second game of their three-game series.
