WWE Suspends Roman Reigns For 30 Days

Wrestling superstar Roman Reigns, whose birth name is Joe Anoa’i, has been suspended for 30 days for violating the organization’s wellness policy, according to a statement released by the WWE on Monday.

To his credit, Reigns accepted full responsibility for his actions and the subsequent repercussions, taking to Twitter to apologize.

“I apologize to my family, friends and fans for my mistake in violating WWE’s wellness policy,” Reigns tweeted. “No excuses. I own it.”

The “Talent Wellness Program” was put into effect by the WWE in 2006. It is unclear what part of the wellness policy was violated since neither Reigns nor the WWE have been willing to cite specifics for the suspension.

ROMAN REIGNS HIGHLIGHTS

WWE’s website lists cardiovascular testing and monitoring, testing for brain function, annual physicals, in addition to listing substance abuse and drug testing as facets of the Wellness Policy.

Reigns becomes the third entertainment athlete to have been suspended for violating the terms of the Wellness program.

In April, Adam Rose (Raymond Leppan) and Konnor (Ryan Parmeter) were suspended 60 days for their second violation of the policy.

A former defensive tackle at Georgia Tech, Reigns pursued a pro football career in Canada and earned practice squad offers from the Minnesota Vikings and the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2007.

Reigns is a three-time WWE World Heavyweight Champion.
