Pep Guardiola is nearing the end of one of the most successful runs in soccer history.
Guardiola is expected to meet with chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak to discuss his plans to step down as Manchester City manager this summer.
This comes after City’s title challenge ended Tuesday night with a 1-1 draw against AFC Bournemouth at Vitality Stadium, which confirmed Arsenal as champions.
Despite continued success and questions about his long-term future throughout the season, Guardiola has spoken about the mental and physical demands of coaching at the highest level year after year and the consistent pressure and expectations.
His contract with the club runs until 2027, but includes a break clause. This summer could allow him to leave before the end of the deal.
Guardiola, now in his 50s, faces one of the biggest decisions of his career amid immense pressure to make the right choice. He has 20 trophies overall, including six Premier League titles, so the entire city will be watching his next move.
If Guardiola does leave Manchester City, he would arguably depart as the greatest manager in club history. Under his leadership, City developed one of the most dominant stretches the sport has seen. His tactical style and emphasis on possession helped redefine modern soccer and influenced coaches worldwide.
Before Manchester City, Guardiola enjoyed great success with FC Barcelona, building a résumé that places him among the all-time great managers. Whether he leaves soon or stays longer, his impact on Manchester City and the world of soccer is already cemented.
His 10 years will be remembered as one of the defining eras in modern soccer history.
