In a legend-making performance that caused Twitter to nearly self combust, 21-year-old Dallas Mavericks superstar guard, Luka Doncic had his coming out party by dropping a 43-17-13 on the two seed and presumptive Western Conference Finals participant Los Angeles Clippers. Playing on a bum ankle that he mildly sprained in game three, Doncic made it to the basket, again and again, finding shooters in the corners and making tough floaters at impossible angles against the league’s best perimeter defenders and capping it off with a buzzer-beating step-back three to give the Mavs a 135-133 win for game four.
This is the stuff of legends, especially at Luka’s age. Playoff performances like this are the hallmark of all-time greats and in a series where most experts thought the Clippers would roll the Mavs, now the best they can do is beat them in six. I’m still not convinced that the Mavs can win this series, Kawhi Leonard is a cyborg built specifically for winning basketball games and Paul George can’t possibly play worse in upcoming games, meanwhile Mavs big man Kristaps Porzingis always seems to be a question mark and was a late scratch for game four with right knee soreness. Whether or not they win this series Doncic made it known that he will be in the playoffs doing big things like this for at least 15 years to come.
