WATCH: Giants’ Alex Dickerson Makes History With Three Home Runs Against Colorado

On Tuesday, the Giants’ Alex Dickerson joined very prestigious company by hitting three home runs and batting in six players in the Giants 23-6 routing over the Colorado Rockies. Dickerson finished with 16 total bases (three homers, two doubles), tying the Giants’ franchise record set by Willie Mays on April 30, 1961.

“It’s incredible company,” Dickerson said. “The things [Mays] did in his career and everything he means to San Francisco, to even be mentioned in the same breath as him is an incredible honor.”

The Giants ended with 27 hits in the best offensive performance by a team this year. “There were plenty of good performances to go around, up and down the lineup,” Giants’ manager Gabe Kapler said. Brandon Crawford and Donovan Solano also ended the night with six RBIs, marking the first time in MLB history that three players each had six RBIs in a game.

While this was an incredible performance you never want to be the team on the other side.

“We’ve got to circle the wagons a little bit here,” Rockies manager Bud Black said. “With the pitching, we’ve had a couple of rough nights on the mound, coincided with a couple of rough nights at the plate. It’s a bad combination. We’ve got to put the two together, that’s for sure.”

Both teams are on the outside looking in on the playoff race in the National League with both teams sporting sub-.500 records. But this may be the inciting incident to a Giants run and the straw that breaks the camel’s back for the Rockies. The playoffs are only a month away and the race to take part seems to be heating up.
