Hernan “Pan Blanco” Perez blasted a solo home run in the third inning on Sunday to lift the Milwaukee Brewers to a 3-2 road victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The Venezuelan shortstop’s homer to left-center field came off starter Yu Darvish, who returned from the disabled list with lower back tightness, and gave the Brewers a 2-0 lead.
Darvish (8-10) surrendered three runs and six hits and struck out seven in five innings of work. The game marked the Japanese righty’s fourth start since the Dodgers acquired him from Texas at the July 31 trade deadline.
The Brewers opened the scoring when a one-out grounder to Corey Seager just missed his glove and drove in a first-inning run with players on the corners.
Seager extended his hitting streak to 15 games in the sixth with his RBI single and scored to make it 3-2 after Santana was unable to snag Justin Turner’s fly ball.
After a day off on Monday, the Brewers return to Milwaukee to host St. Louis on Tuesday in the opener of a two-game series and six-game home-stand. Righty Matt Garza (6-7, 4.67 ERA) will start for the Brewers. First pitch is scheduled for 7:40 pm EST.
The Dodgers will also enjoy a day off before heading to Arizona for a three-game series against the Diamondbacks on Tuesday. Rich Hill (9-5, 3.32 ERA) will make his first start since his near perfect game. First pitch is scheduled for 9:40 pm EST.
