Washington Redskins’ DeSean Jackson Redeems Himself After Reverse-Field And Fumble Vs. Dallas Cowboys

Washington Redskins Wide Receiver DeSean Jackson made himself stand out quite a bit during Monday night’s game against the Dallas Cowboys at the Redskins’ own FedEx Field in Landover, Md.

Following a 3-and-out, Dallas punted the ball and Jackson caught it. Instead of driving past the Cowboys’ defense, however, he reversed field and went back 21 yards. The WR then immediately fumbled.

“I’ll take that on the chin,” Jackson stated after his team’s 19-16 loss to the Cowboys. “I fumbled, I know better than that. Protect the ball under any circumstance and get down.” He decided to reverse field after he found himself trapped near the 23-yard line.

Jackson’s fumble led to a 16-9 lead by the Cowboys in a game tied 9-9 that had been devoid of touchdowns up until the last few minutes. However, Jackson was able to redeem himself by catching a 28-yard TD pass to tie the game with 44 seconds left.

“I wouldn’t really change nothing, but at a point I was probably like I should have went out of bounds,” Jackson later added. “But I was being a playmaker and trying to make a play for my team, but it didn’t come out my way.”

Jackson says he regrets losing the ball more than anything else, including his reverse run. “Part of it is my fault, too. I fumbled,” he said. “I’ll take part of that on my shoulder. Hopefully I can bounce back and do something crazy to help us win a game.”

The Cowboys also gave up a 46-yard kickoff return following Jackson’s touchdown. However, they managed to successfully complete a 54-yard field goal kick with less than 30 seconds left in the game, which led them to a 19-16 victory.

“He didn’t lose that game,” Redskins end Jason Hatcher said. “It’s a team loss. We don’t point fingers and single guys out. It’s a tough play. But he has to pick his head up. We need him.”
