Washington Football Team’s Logan Thomas Tears ACL

The initial fears that the Washington Football Team‘s Logan Thomas tore his ACL are true. Thomas suffered the injury in the team’s December 5 game against the Las Vegas Raiders in a low hit by Yannick Ngakoue, a hit that Washington coach Ron Rivera called “avoidable.”

The medical staff first called it an ACL tear, but as they continued to do tests on it the following week, downgraded the diagnosis to a knee injury. Knee injuries are easier and quicker to recover from. The Washington Football Team debated keeping Thomas on the 53-man roster in case he was able to make a quick recovery, but the decision was eventually made to place Thomas on IR. He had already been on IR this year, so the decision ended Thomas’ season. Rivera said they felt like it was the best decision considering the time it would give him to be healthy and possibly come back for the playoffs if the team were to make it.

2021 saw Thomas coming off his most productive season as a pro. He hauled in 72 passes for 670 yards and six touchdowns. In August, he signed a three-year extension worth up to $24.065 million. This season, Thomas was held off the field in five games due to a hamstring injury. He played in just six games, catching 18 passes for 196 yards and three touchdowns. One of his touchdowns came in the game against Las Vegas before he was injured again.

With Thomas out, Ricky Seals-Jones has stepped into the starting tight end role.
