Washington Football Team Not Pursuing QB Deshaun Watson

The Deshaun Watson sweepstakes are currently ongoing, but so far there is no indication of where he will land. What we do know is that Washington is not interested in the young quarterback.

Currently, the Texans are actively ignoring trade calls from other teams. This has led to various interested teams leaving voice messages with their trade offers. While various teams are interested in acquiring the three-time Pro-Bowler, some teams are not.

One team that clearly is not interested in Watson is the Washington Football Team. This comes as a surprise because Washington is in the need of a quarterback. The team is parting ways with quarterback Alex Smith in a few days. That will leave Washington without a quarterback, so they could pursue a trade for Watson if that were the team’s desire. Instead, Washington may turn to the NFL Draft to get their future signal caller.

One month ago, Washington introduced new general manager Martin Mayhew, and he talked about the possibility of trading for a quarterback. Regarding that option, Mayhew admitted that they were open, but they wanted to be “aggressive and smart.”

Trading for Watson is a no-brainer for a team without a quarterback. Watson is a young player who has yet to reach his prime, but he is already a proven star. A three-time Pro-Bowler, who last season completed 70.2 percent of his pass completions for a league-best 4,823 yards, 33 touchdowns, and seven interceptions would make for an excellent addition to Washington. However, for some reason, Washington has made it clear that they are out of the Watson sweepstakes.
