The Washington Football Team will not be changing its name – at least, not to the “Warriors” as some have speculated.
Washington has been dubbed the “Football Team” since last July. They decided that the name “Warriors” too closely mimics their previously disparaged name, the Redskins.
“I know this may be disappointing for some folks. But as I have said many times before, our new identity should unite us. It should bring us together the way this team comes together on the football field and the way we have seen our Fans come together and proudly support our Team and our DMV community,” said Jason Wright, president of the organization.
Washington has six months to come up with a new name after the United States Patent and Trademark Office refused the organization’s trademark application.
