VIDEO: Lionel Messi Grabs Back Of NYC FC Assistant Coach Mehdi Ballouchy’s Neck

Lionel Messi drew criticism when he grabbed the back of New York City FC’s Assistant Coach Mehdi Ballouchy’s neck after a draw in Inter Miami’s season opener on Feb. 22. The Inter Miami star was given a yellow card for arguing with the referee after the final whistle sealed the 2-2 draw. USA Today’s Messi reporter, Safi Deen, said, “Messi should be fined and forced to issue an apology for his actions.” Apple TV’s Taylor Twellman posted on X: “Not a great look. Grabbing an assistant coach by the neck. Going after the ref.” (Credit: Jose Armando via Storyful)
