VIDEO EXCLUSIVE: U.S. Olympic Ski Jumper Logan Sankey On How She Learned To Ski

Team USA ski jumper Logan Sankey is excited to compete in the Beijing Olympic Games after a lifetime of skiing.

Sankey grew up in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, where she learned to ski at the age of two.

“I actually grew up just skiing for fun with my family and just ripping around the mountain, just trying to have a blast with my brothers and my parents, which I was really lucky and definitely privileged to be able to have that experience at a young age,” she said. “We moved to Steamboat full time when I was in sixth grade, and that’s when I started Alpine racing.”

The person who inspired her to start ski jumping was her Alpine racing coach, who let her practice on the ski jumps.

“[In] downhill skiing in the Olympics, you try to press and absorb the downhill jumps, and we would practice that on the ski jumps, but I had this really amazing coach and he would always let us, instead of trying to absorb and go as short as possible, he would let us just send it and go as far as possible for the last few jumps fo fun,” she said. “I thought that was really really exciting and fun, and that’s what drove me to try ski jumping at the age of 15.”
