World Champion figure skater Nathan Chen is getting ready to represent Team USA at the Beijing Winter Olympic Games.
Chen used to have rituals before he went on the ice, but moving forward has decided that he doesn’t need them anymore.
“My new ritual is to not do any rituals, so now I just try to avoid anything,” he said. “Every day is a new day, every opportunity is a new opportunity, every competition’s going to be different so if I stick to some ritual that I think has some performance benefit, it likely won’t.”
When Chen gets on the ice, he wants to push himself to get a little better than he is already.
“I want to continue pushing myself forward doing the best that I can, every single opportunity that I have to get on the ice I try to be better than I was the previous day,” he said.
